At San Francisco Multi-Specialty Medical Group (SFMMG) we use Podiatrists to co-manage many patients who have foot and ankle related injuries or repetative stress disorders that may make walking or standing difficult. Since Podiatrists specialize in medical care of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. They must have a doctor of podiatric medicine (D.P.M.) degree from a college of podiatric medicine. Podiatrists are sometimes referred to as foot doctors, foot and ankle surgeons, or podiatric surgeons.

In the Bay Area, especially San Francisco, our patients spend a great deal of time on their feet walking and standing, uphill and down hill, concrete and grass. Our team of physicians has incorporated using Podiatry to address our patients special needs related to foot and ankle. SFMMG podiatrists will diagnose and treat disorders, diseases, and injuries of the foot and lower leg.

San Francisco Multi-Specialty Medical Group (SFMMG) Podiatrists treat arch problems; ankle and foot injuries, deformities, and infections; and foot complaints associated with diabetes and other diseases. To treat these problems, SFMMG podiatrists may prescribe medication and physical therapy, set fractures, and perform surgery. Our podiatrists may fit you with corrective shoe inserts called orthotics, design plaster casts and strappings to correct deformities, and design custom-made shoes.

To diagnose a foot problem, SFMMG podiatrists also may order X rays, MRI’s and laboratory tests. The foot may be the first area to show signs of serious conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease.
